A Hollywood Foreign Press Association revelou a lista de nomeados aos Golden Globes 2015. Carol lidera a lista, com cinco nomeações; The Big Short, Steve Jobs e The Revenant ficam-se pelas quatro nomeações. O até agora grande preferido aos Óscares 2016, Spotlight, foi nomeado em três categorias. Mad Max: Fury Road continua a infiltrar-se nas premiações, com duas poderosas nomeações: Melhor Filme - Drama e Melhor Realizador (George Miller). Alicia Vikander consegue duas nomeações, pelos seus trabalhos em Ex Machina e The Danish Girl. Helen Mirren volta a reafirmar-se na corrida ao Óscar: repete o feito dos prémios SAG, sendo nomeada por Trumbo.
Nas habituais reviravoltas dos prémios da HFPA, The Martian surpreende por conseguir nomeações na categoria de Melhor Filme - Comédia ou Musical (submissão feita sobretudo para garantir a sua adição na lista) e Melhor Actor - Comédia ou Musical. Ridley Scott é nomeado como realizador. Michael Shannon repete a nomeação dos SAG, mas aqui Will Smith (Concussion) e Sylvester Stallone (Creed) voltam a garantir o favoritismo. Jane Fonda volta a ser cotada na corrida por Youth (o filme recebeu uma nomeação surpresa na categoria de Melhor Canção Original).
As ausências mais notadas são Johnny Depp (conseguiu ser nomeados nos prémios SAG), Tom Hanks (Bridge of Spies, que é também ignorado para Melhor Filme), Michael Keaton e Mark Ruffalo (ambos por Spotlight). Ou até Meryl Streep, cuja presença a HFPA sempre tenta conseguir, por Ricky and the Flash.

Depois de ter sido ignorado pelos prémios Emmy, Outlander é nomeado por três vezes, incluindo Melhor Série - Drama. Lily Tomlin garante dupla nomeação: em televisão por Grace and Frankie e em cinema por Grandma; assim como Mark Rylance: em televisão por Wolf Hall e em cinema por Bridge of Spies. Nas séries de comédia, Casual e Mozart in the Jungle (duas nomeações) são a maior surpresa na categoria principal, mas Master of None, The Grinder e Blunt Talk surpreendem também por nomear os seus actores principais. Rachel Bloom é a surpresa nas actrizes de comédia por Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Transparent, Fargo e American Crime juntam-se ao lote de séries que acumulam três nomeações. O Netflix arrecada oito nomeações, enquanto que a Amazon somou cinco.
Lena Headey e Peter Dinklage não conseguem nomeação por Game of Thrones; assim como Amy Poehler por Parks and Recreation (curioso que nenhuma produção do canal NBC, anfitrião da gala, foi nomeada).
