A MPSE (Motion Pictures Sound Editors) divulgou os nomeados dos seus prémios anuais Golden Reel no que diz respeito ao Melhor Som. Embora as categorias e nomeados sejam as mais variadas (algumas até improváveis), é difícil dizer de que forma e quais estas se poderão reflectir no Óscar de Melhor Som. Entre os preferidos à categoria estão filmes como Super 8, Hugo, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, War Horse e The Adventures of Tintin.
