O American Film Institute (AFI) revelou o seu habitual top anual com os melhores filmes e séries do ano. O ano passado, sete dos dez indicados foram nomeados ao Óscar de Melhor Filme. Este ano as ausências mais notadas em cinema foram Gone Girl, The Theory of Everything (este era inelegível por ser de produção britânica) ou The Grand Budapest Hotel. Em televisão, destaque para a presença de quatro comédias (contra as duas do ano anterior).
